We’re using Kabura Saffron from Afghanistan in support of Afghan women who plant, pick and package this ray of golden sunshine spice. Now that I tried it I can brag on it as well as appreciate every bite or sip of whatever I put it in.
My first taste was a tea. Boil water, place in cup.
Take a light pinch of saffron threads, place in mortar and pestle and grind till fine.
Add to boiled water, stir and let steep, stir again and sip.

I returned recently to my agar diet, consuming a few tablespoons daily either before meals, between meals, when I get hungry, or to start the day. My next experiment with saffron was to make the agar sing. Why not feel like the kings and queens of the spice world, by enjoying the best the world offers?
Indeed it did. The recipe is easy: SAFFRON AGAR
Makes about 9 cups
12 c. water
1 T. powdered agar – I use NOW Real Food brand
1 generous pinch saffron threads placed in mortar and pestle to fine grind
1- Combine water and agar in extra-large saucepan, over medium heat, whisking to infuse.
2- Add fine grind saffron, let it spread naturally, then wait a couple minutes before whisking.
3- Bring to soft boil, whisking often to prevent sticking to bottom of pan, being sure to dissolve thoroughly the agar and saffron.
4- Reduce heat to low and cook about 15 minutes.
5- Remove from heat and let cool down at room temperature before transferring to covered containers. Refrigerate.

Try putting a tablespoon chilled saffron agar in your coffee, then top it with about 1/2 teaspoon fine grind saffron threads or less, stir and enjoy!
For evening, fill a glass 2/3rds full with Diet Pepsi (leaving some headspace). Add a tablespoon of chilled saffron agar. Now add 1/2 teaspoon fine grind saffron threads or less. Watch the foam rise, then stir to dissipate – watch that it doesn’t overflow. If it does, then quickly sip the foam, then when dissipated add more Pepsi. Special!!
Now I know why they recommended sweet to enhance the overall flavor achievement of saffron ~ de-e-e-licious!
The mouth feel of the agar gel is both a surprise and a delight! When it’s saffron infused, it sings!
